We coordinate the efforts of the County, District and Town Councils and do all this on a total of grant aid from these councils which rarely reaches one third of the money needed to run the Bloom. The remainder and majority of the money comes from a number of fund raising efforts and in particular the very valuable support we receive from our sponsors.
Our aim is to raise the quality of life for all those who live, work or visit the town and in order to help spread the message and increase the quality of the environment we run a wide ranging garden competition. This competition is free to enter and we encourage residents and businesses to enter.
In the autumn of each year we hold a presentation evening to which the winners of the various categories are invited.
The Bloom usually enters the various Britain in Bloom competitions organised by the Royal Horticultural Society . We have done extremely well over the years having won national and international awards.
More imporortantly, the efforts of the Bloom are universally recognized to have bolstered the reputation of Barnstaple throughout the kingdom.
We actively encourage residents and businesses to improve and extend their floral displays. To that end we encourage businesses in the Town Centre to obtain displays. We can supply and maintain these if this is desired although the town is extremely fortunate in having many superb commercial suppliers.
Each year the annual report paraphrases the efforts of the previous year.
